וְאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר־נָחֲלוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן אֲשֶׁר נִחֲלוּ אוֹתָם אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן־נוּן וְרָאשֵׁי    14:1

אֲבוֹת הַמַּטּוֹת לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Josh. 14:1   And these are what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, that Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes, distributed them to the children of Israel,

בְּגוֹרַל נַחֲלָתָם כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה לְתִשְׁעַת הַמַּטּוֹת וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה׃    14:2

Josh. 14:2   their inheritances by lots as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, to the nine tribes and the half tribe.

כִּי־נָתַן מֹשֶׁה נַחֲלַת שְׁנֵי הַמַּטּוֹת וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה מֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן וְלַלְוִיִּם לֹא־נָתַן נַחֲלָה בְּתוֹכָם׃    14:3

Josh. 14:3   For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe from the other side of the Jordan; but to the Levites he did not give an inheritance among them.

כִּי־הָיוּ בְנֵי־יוֹסֵף שְׁנֵי מַטּוֹת מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶפְרָיִם וְלֹא־נָתְנוּ חֵלֶק לַלְוִיִּם בָּאָרֶץ כִּי אִם־עָרִים לָשֶׁבֶת    14:4

וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם לְמִקְנֵיהֶם וּלְקִנְיָנָם׃

Josh. 14:4   For the children of Joseph were two tribes, of Manasseh and of Ephraim, and they did not give a portion to the Levites in the land but only the cities to dwell and their open areas for their cattle and their substance.

כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה כֵּן עָשׂוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּחְלְקוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃    14:5

Josh. 14:5   As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

וַיִּגְּשׁוּ בְנֵי־יְהוּדָה אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בַּגִּלְגָּל וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כָּלֵב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה הַקְּנִזִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֶת־הַדָּבָר    14:6

אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִים עַל אֹדוֹתַי וְעַל אֹדוֹתֶיךָ בְּקָדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ׃

Josh. 14:6   And children of Judah drew near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, said to him, “You have known the thing that the Lord had spoken to Moses, the man of God, about my cause and about your cause in Kadesh-barnea.”

בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה אָנֹכִי בִּשְׁלֹחַ מֹשֶׁה עֶבֶד־יְהוָה אֹתִי מִקָּדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ לְרַגֵּל אֶת־הָאָרֶץ וָאָשֵׁב אֹתוֹ    14:7

דָּבָר כַּאֲשֶׁר עִם־לְבָבִי׃

Josh. 14:7   “I was of age forty years when Moses, servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land and I brought a word back to him as it was with my heart.”

וְאַחַי אֲשֶׁר עָלוּ עִמִּי הִמְסִיו אֶת־לֵב הָעָם וְאָנֹכִי מִלֵּאתִי אַחֲרֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי׃    14:8

Josh. 14:8   “But my brethren who went up with me melted the heart of the people while I was filled with the Lord, my God.”

וַיִּשָּׁבַע מֹשֶׁה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר אִם־לֹא הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר דָּרְכָה רַגְלְךָ בָּהּ לְךָ תִהְיֶה לְנַחֲלָה    14:9

וּלְבָנֶיךָ עַד־עוֹלָם כִּי מִלֵּאתָ אַחֲרֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי׃

Josh. 14:9   “And Moses swore on that day saying, ‘Surely the land that your foot has trodden on it, for you it shall be for an inheritance, and for your children forever, because you were filled with the Lord, my God.’”

וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה הֶחֱיָה יְהוָה אוֹתִי כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר זֶה אַרְבָּעִים וְחָמֵשׁ שָׁנָה מֵאָז דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֶת־הַדָּבָר    14:10

הַזֶּה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֲשֶׁר־הָלַךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי הַיּוֹם בֶּן־חָמֵשׁ וּשְׁמוֹנִים שָׁנָה׃

Josh. 14:10   “And now behold, the Lord has kept me alive as He spoke these forty-five years from the time the Lord spoke this thing to Moses that Israel walked in the wilderness, and now behold, I am eighty-five years old today.”

עוֹדֶנִּי הַיּוֹם חָזָק כַּאֲשֶׁר בְּיוֹם שְׁלֹחַ אוֹתִי מֹשֶׁה כְּכֹחִי אָז וּכְכֹחִי עָתָּה לַמִּלְחָמָה וְלָצֵאת וְלָבוֹא׃    14:11

Josh. 14:11   “Still I am strong today as on the day Moses sent me.  Like my strength was then, so my strength is like that now, to engage in battle and for going out and for coming in.”

וְעַתָּה תְּנָה־לִּי אֶת־הָהָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּר יְהוָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא כִּי אַתָּה־שָׁמַעְתָּ בַיּוֹם הַהוּא כִּי־עֲנָקִים    14:12

שָׁם וְעָרִים גְּדֹלוֹת בְּצֻרוֹת אוּלַי יְהוָה אוֹתִי וְהוֹרַשְׁתִּים כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה׃

Josh. 14:12   “So now give to me this mountain of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakim were there with great fortified cities.  If the Lord is with me then I will drive them out as the Lord spoke.”

וַיְבָרְכֵהוּ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַיִּתֵּן אֶת־חֶבְרוֹן לְכָלֵב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה לְנַחֲלָה׃    14:13

Josh. 14:13   And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

עַל־כֵּן הָיְתָה־חֶבְרוֹן לְכָלֵב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה הַקְּנִזִּי לְנַחֲלָה עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי יְהוָה    14:14

אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

Josh. 14:14   Therefore was Hebron for Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, for an inheritance until this day, for the reason that he had been filled with the Lord, God of Israel.

וְשֵׁם חֶבְרוֹן לְפָנִים קִרְיַת אַרְבַּע הָאָדָם הַגָּדוֹל בָּעֲנָקִים הוּא וְהָאָרֶץ שָׁקְטָה מִמִּלְחָמָה׃    14:15

Josh. 14:15   And the name of Hebron before was Kiriath-arba, he was the greatest man among the Anakim.  And the land had rest from war.
