2Kings 15

2Kin.15:1   In the year of twenty-seven years for Jeroboam, king of Israel, Azariah son of Amaziah, king of Judah, became king.

2Kin.15:2   He was sixteen years of age at the start of his reign, and he was king in Jerusalem fifty-two years.  And the name of his mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem.

2Kin.15:3   And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, like everything that his father, Amaziah, had done.                                                                                             [Return to 2Chr. 26:3]

2Kin.15:4   Only the high places were not removed.  The people were still sacrificing and offering in the high places.

2Kin.15:5   And the Lord struck the king with plague and he was a leper until the day of his death and dwelled in a house of the sick, as Jotham son of the king was over the household.  He judged the people of the land.

2Kin.15:6   And the rest of the acts of Azariah and all that he accomplished, are they not written on the scroll of the chronicles of the days of the kings of Judah?                  [Return to 2Chr. 26:5]

2Kin.15:7   And Azariah slept with his ancestors and they buried him with his ancestors in the city of David, and his son, Jotham, ruled in his place.

It’s unlikely that Azariah was buried in the city of David.  He was a leper, and as such, he would not have been buried in the tombs of the kings.  See 2Chr. 26:23 for a different version of this verse.

2Kin.15:8   In the year of thirty-eight years for Azariah, king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam was king over Israel in Samaria six months.

2Kin.15:9   And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord as his fathers had done.  He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat by which he had made Israel to sin.

2Kin.15:10   And Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against him and smote him before the people and slew him, and he became king in his place.

2Kin.15:11   And the rest of the acts of Zechariah, behold, they are written on the scroll of the chronicles of the days of the kings of Israel.

2Kin.15:12   It was the word of the Lord that He spoke to Jehu saying, “The sons of the fourth generation shall sit for you on the throne of Israel.”  And it happened so.

2Kin.15:13   Shallum son of Jabesh was king in the year of thirty-nine years for Uzziah, king of Judah, and he reigned the period of a month in Samaria.

2Kin.15:14   And Menahem son of Gadi went up from Tirzah and came into Samaria and smote Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria and slew him.  And he reigned in his place.

2Kin.15:15   And the rest of the acts of Shallum and his conspiracy that he had made, behold, they are written on the scroll of the chronicles of the days for the kings of Israel.

2Kin.15:16   Then Menahem struck Tiphsah and all that was in it and its borders out of Tirzah. Because it did not open up, so he smote.  He ripped up all the pregnant women.

2Kin.15:17   In the year of thirty-nine years for Azariah, king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi became king over Israel.  He was in Samaria ten years.

2Kin.15:18   And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord.  He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat by which he made Israel to sin all his days.

2Kin.15:19   Pul, king of Assyria, came against the land, and Menahem gave a thousand talents of silver to Pul, his hand to be with him to strengthen the kingdom by his hand.

                                                                                                                                     [Return to Hose. 5:13]

2Kin.15:20   And Manahem exacted the money from Israel, from all the mighty men of wealth to give to the king of Assyria, fifty shekels of silver for each man.  So the king of Assyria turned back and did not stay there in the land.

2Kin.15:21   And the rest of the acts of Menahem and all that he accomplished, are they not written on the scroll of the chronicles of the days for the kings of Israel?

2Kin.15:22   And Menahem slept with his fathers, and his son, Pekahiah, became king in his place.

2Kin.15:25   And Pekah son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him and he smote him in Samaria in the castle of the house of the king with Argob and Ariah.  And fifty men from the children of the Gileadites were with him.  And he slew him and became king in his place.

The word in parentheses is missing a heh prefix.  The correction is in the brackets.
