Psal. 141:1 A psalm of David's:
Lord, I have called to You.
Hurry to me!
Hear my voice with my calling to You!
Psal. 141:2 Let my prayer be set up, an incense before You,
the lifting of my hands, an evening sacrifice.
Psal. 141:3 Set, Lord, a guard for my mouth,
watch at the door of my lips.
Psal. 141:4 May You not incline my heart to any evil thing,
to indulge wanton deeds, with wickedness,
together with any men, practitioners of iniquity,
nor let me dine on their delicacies.
Here is a definitive statement as to what the psalmist is praying for and why. He doesn’t want to be sucked into the evil that surrounds him. He is fearful that he might succumb to the lure of the successes of the evil men, their “delicacies.”
Psal. 141:5 Let a kind righteous one strike me and correct me,
surely yet my head would not refuse the finest oil,
and my prayer would be about their evil deeds.
Psal. 141:6 Their vindicators are thrown down by the sides of the rock,
then they may hear my words, that they are sweet.
Psal. 141:7 As if one were piercing and breaking up onto the earth,
our bones are scattered in the opening of a grave.
Psal. 141:8 Indeed, my eyes are to You, Lord, my Master.
I take refuge in You;
may You not leave my soul destitute.
Psal. 141:9 Keep me from the sides of the trap they have set for me,
and from the lures of the practitioners of iniquity.
Psal. 141:10 May the wicked each together fall into his own nets
while I would escape.
