וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר   34:1

Numb. 34:1  And the Lord spoke to Moses saying,

צַו אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם כִּי־אַתֶּם בָּאִים אֶל־הָאָרֶץ כְּנָעַן זֹאת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר תִּפֹּל לָכֶם   34:2

בְּנַחֲלָה אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן לִגְבֻלֹתֶיהָ

Numb. 34:2  “Command the children of Israel and you shall say to them, ‘When you will be going in to the land of Canaan, that shall be the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan to its borders.’

וְהָיָה לָכֶם פְּאַת־נֶגֶב מִמִּדְבַּר־צִן עַל־יְדֵי אֱדֹום וְהָיָה לָכֶם גְּבוּל נֶגֶב מִקְצֵה יָם־הַמֶּלַח קֵדְמָה   34:3

Numb. 34:3  ‘The south side from the wilderness of Zin near Edom shall be yours, and the south border from the shore of the Sea of Salt east shall be yours.’

וְנָסַב לָכֶם הַגְּבוּל מִנֶּגֶב לְמַעֲלֵה עַקְרַבִּים וְעָבַר צִנָה (וְהָיָה) [וְהָיוּ] תֹּוצְאֹתָיו מִנֶּגֶב לְקָדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ   34:4

וְיָצָא חֲצַר־אַדָּר וְעָבַר עַצְמֹנָה

Numb. 34:4  ‘And the border from south of the ascent of Akrabbim shall turn for you and pass through to Zin, and its extentions shall be from the south of Kadesh-barnea, and it shall go out to Hazar-addar, then pass along to Azmon.’

Note the error in parentheses and its correction in brackets.  The verb shall be is singular in the Hebrew and should be plural.

וְנָסַב הַגְּבוּל מֵעַצְמֹון נַחְלָה מִצְרָיִם וְהָיוּ תֹוצְאֹתָיו הַיָּמָּה   34:5

Numb. 34:5  ‘And the border from Azmon shall turn to the Brook of Egypt, and its extensions shall be to the sea,

וּגְבוּל יָם וְהָיָה לָכֶם הַיָּם הַגָּדֹול וּגְבוּל זֶה־יִהְיֶה לָכֶם גְּבוּל יָם   34:6

Numb. 34:6  and the sea coast.  And the Great Sea shall be yours. This shall be your western border.’

וְזֶה־יִהְיֶה לָכֶם גְּבוּל צָפֹון מִן־הַיָּם הַגָּדֹל תְּתָאוּ לָכֶם הֹר הָהָר   34:7

Numb. 34:7  ‘And this shall be your north border:  From the Great Sea you shall mark out for yourself to the mountain of Hor.’

מֵהֹר הָהָר תְּתָאוּ לְבֹא חֲמָת וְהָיוּ תֹּוצְאֹת הַגְּבֻל צְדָדָה   34:8

Numb. 34:8  ‘From the mountain of Hor you shall mark out to the entrance of Hamath, and the extensions of the border shall be to Zedad.’

וְיָצָא הַגְּבֻל זִפְרֹנָה וְהָיוּ תֹוצְאֹתָיו חֲצַר עֵיןָן זֶה־יִהְיֶה לָכֶם גְּבוּל צָפֹון   34:9

Numb. 34:9  ‘And the border shall go forth to Ziphron, and its extensions shall be to Hazar-enan.  This shall be your north border.’

וְהִתְאַוִּיתֶם לָכֶם לִגְבוּל קֵדְמָה מֵחֲצַר עֵיןָן שְׁפָמָה   34:10

Numb. 34:10   ‘And you shall mark out for yourself to the east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham.’

וְיָרַד הַגְּבֻל מִשְּׁפָם הָרִבְלָה מִקֶּדֶם לָעָיִן וְיָרַד הַגְּבוּל וּמָחָה עַל־כֶּתֶף יָם־כִּנֶּרֶת קֵדְמָה   34:11

Numb. 34:11   ‘And the border from Shepham shall descend to Riblah eastward of Ain.  Then the border shall descend and shall touch on the eastern slope of the Sea of Chinnereth.’

וְיָרַד הַגְּבוּל הַיַּרְדֵּנָה וְהָיוּ תֹוצְאֹתָיו יָם הַמֶּלַח זֹאת תִּהְיֶה לָכֶם הָאָרֶץ לִגְבֻלֹתֶיהָ סָבִיב   34:12

Numb. 34:12   ‘And the border shall descend to the Jordan, and its extensions shall be the Sea of Salt. This shall be your land to its borders all around.’”

וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר זֹאת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר תִּתְנַחֲלוּ אֹתָהּ בְּגֹורָל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה לָתֵת    34:13

לְתִשְׁעַת הַמַּטֹּות וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה

Numb. 34:13   Then Moses commanded the children of Israel saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit, by lot, which the Lord commanded to give to nine of the tribes and the half of a tribe,

כִּי לָקְחוּ מַטֵּה בְנֵי הָראוּבֵנִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם וּמַטֵּה בְנֵי־הַגָּדִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם וַחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה לָקְחוּ   34:14

נַחֲלָתָם

Numb. 34:14   for the tribe of the children of Reuben have received according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers and the half tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.”

שְׁנֵי הַמַּטֹּות וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה לָקְחוּ נַחֲלָתָם מֵעֵבֶר לְיַרְדֵּן יְרֵחֹו קֵדְמָה מִזְרָחָה   34:15

Numb. 34:15   “The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance from the other side of the Jordan at Jericho eastward toward the sunrise.”

וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר   34:16

Numb. 34:16   And the Lord spoke to Moses saying,

אֵלֶּה שְׁמֹות הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר־יִנְחֲלוּ לָכֶם אֶת־הָאָרֶץ אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וִיהֹושֻׁעַ בִּן־נוּן   34:17

Numb. 34:17   “These are the names of the men who shall divide the land for you:  Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua son of Nun.”

Because the second-person pronoun suffix of the sixth word לָכֶם, translated as for you, is plural, its object could not be Moses.  I suspect that the scribe made a minor error at this point.  He was led to the error by the fact that the word for names is plural.  See the next verse for corroboration of this suspicion.  I imagine that the scribe should have added at the end of v. 34:16, “Speak to the children of Israel and you shall say to them,”  And Moses would have received the words in these two verses (17 and 18) from the Lord to say to the people.  Then the phrase for you would have been properly plural.  Incidentally, the corroboration in the next verse that the scribe made an error here is that the second-person pronoun in the phrase “And you shall take” (the first Hebrew word) in v. 34:18 is singular.

וְנָשִׂיא אֶחָד נָשִׂיא אֶחָד מִמַּטֶּה תִּקְחוּ לִנְחֹל אֶת־הָאָרֶץ   34:18

Numb. 34:18   “And you shall take one chief, a chief from each tribe, to divide the land.”

וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹות הָאֲנָשִׁים לְמַטֵּה יְהוּדָה כָּלֵב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה   34:19

Numb. 34:19   “And these are the names of the men:  For the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh,

וּלְמַטֵּה בְּנֵי שִׁמְעֹון שְׁמוּאֵל בֶּן־עַמִּיהוּד   34:20

Numb. 34:20   and for the tribe of the children of Simeon, Samuel son of Ammihud.”

לְמַטֵּה בִנְיָמִן אֱלִידָד בֶּן־כִּסְלֹון   34:21

Numb. 34:21   “For the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon.”

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־דָן נָשִׂיא בֻּקִּי בֶּן־יָגְלִי   34:22

Numb. 34:22   “And the chief for the tribe of the children of Dan, Bukki son of Jogli.”

לִבְנֵי יֹוסֵף לְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־מְנַשֶּׁה נָשִׂיא חַנִּיאֵל בֶּן־אֵפֹד   34:23

Numb. 34:23   “For the children of Joseph, the chief for the tribe of the children of Manasseh, Hanniel son of Ephod,

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־אֶפְרַיִם נָשִׂיא קְמוּאֵל בֶּן־שִׁפְטָן   34:24

Numb. 34:24   and the chief for the tribe of the children of Ephraim,  Kemuel son of Shiphtan.”

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־זְבוּלֻן נָשִׂיא אֱלִיצָפָן בֶּן־פַּרְנָךְ   34:25

Numb. 34:25   “And the chief for the tribe of the children of Zebulun, Elizaphan son of Parnach.”

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־יִשָׂשכָר נָשִׂיא פַּלְטִיאֵל בֶּן־עַזָּן   34:26

Numb. 34:26   “And the chief for the tribe of the children of Issachar,  Paltiel son of Azzan.”

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־אָשֵׁר נָשִׂיא אֲחִיהוּד בֶּן־שְׁלֹמִי   34:27

Numb. 34:27   “And the chief for the tribe of the children of Asher, Achihud son of Shelomi.”

וּלְמַטֵּה בְנֵי־נַפְתָּלִי נָשִׂיא פְּדַהְאֵל בֶּן־עַמִּיהוּד   34:28

Numb. 34:28   “And the chief for the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Pedahel son of Ammihud.”

אֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה לְנַחֵל אֶת־בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן   34:29

Numb. 34:29   These are who the Lord commanded to divide the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.
