Isai. 23:1 The prophecy of Tyre:
Howl, ships of Tarshish!
For it is laid waste, of house, of entrance.
From the land of Kittim it is revealed to it.
Isai. 23:2 Be still, inhabitants of the coast!
The trade of Zidon passing over the sea,
Replenished you.
Isai. 23:3 And on the great waters
The seed of Shihor, the crop of the Nile,
Was its revenue,
And it was the profit of the nations.
Isai. 23:4 Be ashamed, Zidon, fortress of the sea,
That the sea has spoken, saying,
“I have not travailed and I have not delivered
And I have not reared choice young men,
Brought up virgins.”
Isai. 23:5 When the report is to the Egyptians,
They will be in pain like the report of Tyre.
Isai. 23:6 Cross over to Tarshish!
Howl, habitations of the coast!
Isai. 23:7 Is this the joy for you?
From the days of old of its antiquity
Its feet carry it far off to sojourn?
Isai. 23:8 Who has devised this against Tyre, the crowning city,
Whose merchants are princes,
Its traffickers the honorable of the land?
Isai. 23:9 The Lord of hosts has devised it,
To debase the pride of all glory,
To treat with contempt all the honorable of the earth.
Isai. 23:10 Overflow your land like the Nile,
Daughter of Tarshish!
There is no strength any more.
Isai. 23:11 He has stretched forth His hand over the sea.
He has shaken kingdoms.
The Lord has given command
Concerning Canaan to destroy its strongholds.
Isai. 23:12 As He said,
“You shall not continue to rejoice any more,
O oppressed virgin daughter of Zidon.
Arise, Kittim, cross over;
Even there, there will be no rest for you.”

Isai. 23:13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans. This was the nonexistent people. Assyria established it to be sailors. They erected its towers, they overthrew its palaces, it was turned to ruin.

Isai. 23:14 Howl, ships of Tarshish,
For your stronghold is destroyed.
Isai. 23:15 And it shall be in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, like the days of one king. From the end of seventy years it shall be for Tyre as the song of the harlot:
Isai. 23:16 Take a harp, go about the city,
Forgotten harlot,
Make sweet melody, multiply song,
That you may be remembered.
Isai. 23:17 And it shall be from the end of seventy years, the Lord will remember Tyre, and it will return to its harlot's pay and make all the kingdoms on the face of the earth harlots.
Isai. 23:18 But its profit and its harlot's pay shall be dedicated to the Lord. It shall not be stored and it shall not be hoarded, for its profit shall be for the dwellers before the Lord, to eat to be full, and for splendid clothing.
