Song of Songs 6

Song 6:1   Where has your Beloved gone,

                               fairest among women?

                     Where has your Beloved turned,

that we may seek with you?

Song 6:2   My Beloved has gone down to His garden,

                               to the beds of spice,

to tend among the gardens and to pick lilies.

Song 6:3   I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine,

                               the Shepherd among the lilies.

Song 6:4   You are as fair, My beloved companion, as Tirzah,

                               as beautiful as Jerusalem,

as terrible as carriers of banners.

Tirzah was a Canaanite city that became the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel.  This identifies the time of this work as being some time after Solomon.  Israel was already split into the two kingdoms at this writing, and both capitals are mentioned in this verse.

Song 6:5   Turn your eyes away from Me that they disturb Me.

Your hair is like a flock of kids that drop down from the Gilead.

Song 6:6   Your teeth are like a flock of ewes

when they come up from the washing,

such that all of them are joined,

and none among them is transposed.

This verse is an approximate copy of Song 4:2.

Song 6:7   Your brow is like a slice of pomegranate through your veil.

Song 6:8   These may be sixty queens and eighty concubines

                               and maidens without number;

Song 6:9   she is one, My dove, My perfect one,

she is her Mother's one, purest one she is to who bore her.

The young women see her and they call her blessed,

the queens and concubines, and they praise her.

Song 6:10   Who is this who looks down like the dawn,

                               as fair as the moon,

                        as pure as the sun,

as terrible as carriers of banners?

Song 6:11   I go down to the garden of nuts

to look at the green plants of the valley,

                       to see the vine bloom,

                               the pomegranates blossom.

Song 6:12   Before I know, My “soul” is directing Me

to the chariots of My noble people.
