Numb. 6:7    ‘For his father or for his mother, for his brother or for his sister, he shall not become unclean for them by their death, for the consecration to his God is upon his head.’

These restrictions are more stringent than even those for Aaron’s sons or any priest.  See Levi. 21:1-21:3.

Numb. 6:21  This is the law of the Nazirite who would vow his offering to the Lord concerning his consecration beside that which his means may reach.  According to his vow that he would vow, so he must do by the law of his consecration.

וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר   6:22

Numb. 6:22  And the Lord spoke to Moses saying,

דַּבֵּר אֶל־אַהֲרֹן וְאֶל־בָּנָיו לֵאמֹר כֹּה תְבָרֲכוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמֹור לָהֶם   6:23

Numb. 6:23  “Speak to Aaron and to his sons saying, ‘You shall bless the children of Israel like this by saying to them,

יְבָרֶךְךָ יְהוָה וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ   6:24

Numb. 6:24  ‘May the Lord bless you so that He keeps you;

יָאֵר יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וִיחֻנֶּךָ  ָּ   6:25

Numb. 6:25  May the Lord make His face shine down to you so that He is gracious to you;

יִשָּׂא יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלֹום   6:26

Numb. 6:26  May the Lord lift up His countenance to you so that He gives you peace.’”

The three verses, 6:24 to 6:26 comprise the threefold priestly blessing that is recited daily among observant Jews to this day.  My translation differs from the universal translation for the following reason.  Each of the vavs prefixing the second verb in each verse in the standard translation are non-inverting.  My translation makes them inverting.  Oddly enough, as I’ve translated these verses, the second verb is a consequence of the first, and that would allow them to be non-inverting.  It’s kind of a catch 22 situation.

וְשָׂמוּ אֶת־שְׁמִי עַל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַאֲנִי אֲבָרֲכֵם   6:27

Numb. 6:27  “Thus they shall put My name upon the children of Israel and I shall bless them.”
