Judg. 7:1 So Jerubbaal -- he is Gideon -- rose up early with all the people who were with him and they camped over Ein-harod, and the camp of Midian was toward it from the north from Gibeath-moreh in the valley.
Judg. 7:2 And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hand, lest because of Me Israel boasts saying, ‘My hand saved me.’”
Judg. 7:3 “So now proclaim, then, in the ears of the people saying, ‘Who is afraid and trembling, let him go back, and let him depart early from the mount of Gilead.’” And two thousand and twenty from the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
Judg. 7:4 Then the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; take them down to the water, I will try them for you there. and it shall be, when I say to you, ‘This shall go with you,’ he shall go with you, and all those of whom I say to you, ‘This shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”
Judg. 7:5 So he brought the people down to the water, and the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps with his tongue from the water as the dog laps, you shall set him apart, and everyone who kneels on his knees to drink.”
Judg. 7:6 And the number of those who lapped with their hand to their mouth was three hundred men. And all the rest of the people knelt on their knees to drink water.
Judg. 7:7 And the Lord said to Gideon, “I shall save you with the three hundred men of those who lap, and I will deliver Midian into your hand, and all the people shall go each man to his place.”
Judg. 7:8 So they took the provisions of the people in their hands and their horns, and he sent every man of Israel each to his tent, but with the three hundred men he found courage. And the camp of Midian was toward him from below in the valley.
Judg. 7:9 And it came to pass in that night, that the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.”
Judg. 7:10 “But if you are afraid to go down, you and Purah, your servant, go down to the camp.”
Judg. 7:11 “And you will hear what they will say, and after, your hands shall be strengthened and you will descend on the camp.” So he went down with Purah, his servant, to the edge of the armed men who were in the camp.
Judg. 7:12 Now Midian and Amalek and all the eastern children were lying in the valley like locusts for multitude, and to their camels there was no number. They were like the sand that is on the shore of the sea for multitude.
Judg. 7:13 When Gideon came, then behold, there was a man telling to his fellow a dream and he said, “Behold, I had a dream, and lo, a cake of the grain of barley tumbled into the camp of Midian and it came in up to the tent and it smote it so it fell and it turned it on its top so the tent fell flat.”
Judg. 7:14 And his fellow answered and said, “This is nothing except only the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel. He Who is God has delivered Midian into his hand, and the whole camp.”
Judg. 7:15 And it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshipped Him; then he returned to the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”
Judg. 7:16 And he divided the three hundred men to three companies and he put horns into all their hands, and empty pitchers, with torches in the middle of the pitchers.
Judg. 7:17 And he said to them, “Observe me, and the same you do. So behold, I come on the edge of the camp, and it shall be, as I will do, so shall you do.”
Judg. 7:18 “When I blow on the horn, I and all who are with me, then you also blow on the horns, spread around the whole camp, and declare, ‘For the Lord and for Gideon!’”
Judg. 7:19 Then Gideon went with the hundred men who were with him onto the edge of the camp; it was the start of the night middle watch, just newly the watch having set, and they blew on the horns and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
Judg. 7:20 And the three companies blew on the horns and broke the pitchers and held fast in their left hands on the torches and in their right hands the horns to blow, and they called, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”
Judg. 7:21 And they stood, each in his place, all around of the camp, and the entire camp ran, and they shouted, and they were put to flight.
Judg. 7:22 And they blew the three hundred horns and the Lord set the sword of each man against his fellow, even over all the camp, and the host fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath.
Judg. 7:23 And the men of Israel from Naphtali and from Asher and from all of Manasseh were gathered, and they pursued after Midian.
Judg. 7:24 And Gideon sent messengers through all the hill country of Ephraim saying, “Come down to be against Midian and take the waters of them as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered and they took the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.
Judg. 7:25 And they captured the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and slew Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and they slew Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb, and they pursued to Midian, and they brought the head of Oreb and of Zeeb to Gideon from the other side of the Jordan.
