Gene. 44:1 And he commanded he who was over his house saying, “Fill the bags of the men with food, as much as they can carry, and put the money of each in the mouth of his bag.”
Gene. 44:2 “And my goblet, the goblet of silver, you shall put in the mouth of the bag of the youngest, and the price of his corn.” And he did according to the word of Joseph that he had spoken.
Gene. 44:3 The morning lit and the men were sent away, they and their asses.
Gene. 44:4 They left the city. They were not far when Joseph said to he who was over his house, “Arise, follow after the men. When you overtake them, then you shall say to them, ‘Why have you rendered evil in place of good?’”
Gene. 44:5 ‘Is this not that in which my lord would drink, and he would indeed divine therein? You have done evil in what you have done.’”
Gene. 44:6 When he overtook them, then he spoke to them those words.
Gene. 44:7 And they said to him, “Why has my lord spoken such words as these? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing as this.”
Gene. 44:8 “If we returned to you the money that we found in the mouth of our bags from the land of Canaan, then why would we steal silver or gold from the house of your lord?”
Gene. 44:9 “Whoever of your servants will be found with it, then let him die, and we also will become bondsmen to my lord.”
Gene. 44:10 And he said, “Now let it be also according to your words: Indeed, he who will be found with it shall be a bondsman to me, and you shall be innocent.”
Gene. 44:11 And they hastened and each man lowered his bag to the ground and they opened, each his bag.
Gene. 44:12 And he searched, starting with the oldest and finishing with the youngest, and he found the goblet in the bag of Benjamin.
Gene. 44:13 And they rent their clothes, and each man reloaded the burden on his ass, and they returned to the city.
Gene. 44:14 And Judah came with his brothers to the house of Joseph and he was still there, and they fell before him to the ground. .
Gene. 44:15 And Joseph said to them, “What deed is this that you have done? Do you not know that a man like me would indeed divine?”
Gene. 44:16 And Judah said, “What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? And what can clear us? He Who is God has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are bondsmen of my lord's, both we and he in whose hand the goblet was found.”
Gene. 44:17 And he said, “Far be it from me to do this. The man in whose hand the goblet was found, he shall be a bondsman to me, but you go up in peace to your father.”
Gene. 44:18 Then Judah came near to him and said, “If it please my lord, your servant would speak, I pray you, a word in the ears of my lord, and do not let your anger flare up at your servant, for you are like Pharoah.”
Gene. 44:19 “My lord asked his servants saying, ‘Is there a father or a brother of yours?’”
Gene. 44:20 “And we had to say to my lord, ‘There is a father to us, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one, and his brother is dead, and he alone is remaining of his mother; his father loves him.’”
Gene. 44:21 “And you said to your servants, ‘Bring him down to me that I may set my eyes on him.’”
Gene. 44:22 “And we had to say to my lord, ‘The boy will not be able to leave his father; if he left his father, then he would die.’”
Gene. 44:23 “And you said to your servants, ‘If you will not bring your youngest brother down with you, you shall not again be seeing my face.’”
Gene. 44:24 “And it happened when we came up to your servant, my father, and we told to him the words of my lord,
Gene. 44:25 then our father said, ‘Go back again, buy for us a little food.’”
Gene. 44:26 “Then we had to say, ‘We will not be able to go down unless our youngest brother will be there with us and we go down, for we will not be able to see the face of the man and we have not our youngest brother with us.’”
Gene. 44:27 “And your servant, my father, said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore two children for me.’
Gene. 44:28 ‘And the first went out from me and I had to say, ‘But surely he is torn in pieces,’ and I have not seen him to now.’
Gene. 44:29 ‘If you take this one from my face also and harm befalls him, then you will bring my gray hair down to the grave with sorrow.’”
Gene. 44:30 “Therefore, now at my coming to your servant, my father, and we do not have the boy with us, and his soul is joined with his soul,
Gene. 44:31 then it will happen after his seeing that the lad is not, then he will die. Your servants will have brought the gray hair of your servant, our father, down to the grave with sorrow.”
Gene. 44:32 “For your servant pledged the boy from my father saying, ‘If I will not bring him back to you,’ then I will bear the blame for my father forever.’”
Gene. 44:33 “Therefore, I pray you, let now your servant stay in place of the boy as a bondsman to my lord, and let the boy go up with his brothers.”
Gene. 44:34 “For how can I go up to my father and the boy is not with me, lest I look upon the evil that will befall my father?”
