Ezra 2:1   Now these were the sons of the province, those going up from the captives of the exile whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had taken into exile to Babylon, and they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own city,

The word in the parentheses, Nebuchadnezzar’s name, is misspelled.  The correct spelling is in the brackets.

Ezra 2:42   Of the sons of the porters, the sons of Shallum, the sons of Ater, the sons of Talmon, the sons of Akkub, the sons of Hatita, the sons of Shobai, a total of a hundred thirty-nine.

הַנְּתִינִים בְּנֵי־צִיחָא בְנֵי־חֲשׂוּפָא בְּנֵי טַבָּעוֹת׃   2:43

Ezra 2:43   Of the Nethinim, the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hasupha, the sons of Tabbaoth,

This is the first mention of the Nethinim in the Hebrew Scriptures.  They are mentioned in 13 other verses in Ezra, Nehemiah, and 1Chronicles.  They were given to the Levites as laborers in the Temple.  Some were apparently first given by David, and then by Solomon.  They are believed to have come, at least initially, from the Gibeonites.

Ezra 2:44   the sons of Keros, the sons of Siaha, the sons of Padon,

The name of Salmai, in the parentheses, is misspelled.  The correction, interchanging the mem and lamed, is in the brackets.

The names Meunim and Nephusim, in the first and second pairs of parentheses, are misspelled.  The respective corrections are in the two sets of brackets.

Ezra 2:51   the sons of Bakbuk, the sons of Hakupha, the sons of Harhur,

בְּנֵי־דְלָיָה בְנֵי־טוֹבִיָּה בְּנֵי נְקוֹדָא שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת חֲמִשִּׁים וּשְׁנָיִם׃   2:60

Ezra 2:60   The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred fifty-two.

וּמִבְּנֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים בְּנֵי חֳבַיָּה בְּנֵי הַקּוֹץ בְּנֵי בַרְזִלַּי אֲשֶׁר לָקַח מִבְּנוֹת בַּרְזִלַּי הַגִּלְעָדִי אִשָּׁה וַיִּקָּרֵא   2:61

 עַל־שְׁמָם׃

Ezra 2:61   And from the sons of the priests:  Of the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzillai (who had taken from the daughters of Barzillai, the Gileadite) a wife and was called by their name.

אֵלֶּה בִּקְשׁוּ כְתָבָם הַמִּתְיַחְשִׂים וְלֹא נִמְצָאוּ וַיְגֹאֲלוּ מִן־הַכְּהֻנָּה׃   2:62

Ezra 2:62   These sought their record of priestly backgrounds, but none were found, so they were kept from the priesthood,

וַיֹּאמֶר הַתִּרְשָׁתָא לָהֶם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יֹאכְלוּ מִקֹּדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים עַד עֲמֹד כֹּהֵן לְאוּרִים וּלְתֻמִּים׃   2:63

Ezra 2:63   and the Tirshatha said to them that they could not eat from the holiest of the holy things until a priest was standing for Urim and for Thummim.

כָּל־הַקָּהָל כְּאֶחָד אַרְבַּע רִבּוֹא אַלְפַּיִם שְׁלֹשׁ־מֵאוֹת שִׁשִּׁים׃   2:64

Ezra 2:64   Together, the entire congregation was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,

This total doesn’t equal the totals of the numbers listed above.  At least part of the reason is that the Levites are not included in the count.  But that wouldn’t be enough to account for the difference, which is 12,546.  Take notice that the numbers specified in this chapter so far only include the men.  So the total number of refugees returning must have been over 100,000.

מִלְּבַד עַבְדֵיהֶם וְאַמְהֹתֵיהֶם אֵלֶּה שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁבְעָה וְלָהֶם מְשֹׁרְרִים   2:65

 וּמְשֹׁרְרוֹת מָאתָיִם׃

Ezra 2:65   beside their men-servants and their maid-servants; these were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven; and two hundred male singers and female singers were theirs.

סוּסֵיהֶם שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁשָּׁה פִּרְדֵיהֶם מָאתַיִם אַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃   2:66

Ezra 2:66   Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six, their mules, two hundred forty-five,

גְּמַלֵּיהֶם אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שְׁלֹשִׁים וַחֲמִשָּׁה חֲמֹרִים שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וְעֶשְׂרִים׃   2:67

Ezra 2:67   their camels, four hundred thirty-five, asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

וּמֵרָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת בְּבוֹאָם לְבֵית יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר בִּירוּשָׁלִָם הִתְנַדְּבוּ לְבֵית הָאֱלֹהִים לְהַעֲמִידוֹ עַל־מְכוֹנוֹ׃   2:68

Ezra 2:68   And some of the heads of households, on their coming to the house of the Lord that was to be in Jerusalem, they gave free-will offerings for the house of God to help set it up upon its place.

כְּכֹחָם נָתְנוּ לְאֹוצַר הַמְּלָאכָה זָהָב דַּרְכְּמֹונִים שֵׁשׁ־רִבֹּאות וָאֶלֶף ס וְכֶסֶף מָנִים חֲמֵשֶׁת אֲלָפִים   2:69

וְכָתְנֹת כֹּהֲנִים מֵאָה׃

Ezra 2:69   They gave according to their wealth to the treasury of the work sixty-one thousand gold darics, and five thousand pounds of silver, and one hundred tunics of priests.

The third from last Hebrew word in the top line, manim, is translated as pounds.  The Maneh, the singular form of manim, was equal to 60 shekels.

וַיֵּשְׁבוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וּמִן־הָעָם וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִים וְהַשּׁוֹעֲרִים וְהַנְּתִינִים בְּעָרֵיהֶם וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּעָרֵיהֶם׃   2:70

Ezra 2:70   And the priests and the Levites and some of the people, and the singers and the porters and the Nethinim dwelled in their cities, and all of Israel in their cities.
