Ezek. 30:1   And the word of the Lord occurred to me saying,

Ezek. 30:2   “Human, prophesy, and you shall say, ‘Thus says the Master, the Lord:

                       Alas!  Wail for the day.’

Ezek. 30:3   ‘For a day is near,

                              indeed, the day of the Lord's is near;

a cloudy day, it shall be the time of the nations.’

Ezek. 30:4   ‘And a sword shall come on Egypt

and a writhing shall be in Ethiopia,

with the falling of the slain in Egypt,

when they carry away its abundance

and its foundations are torn down.’

Ezek. 30:5   ‘Ethiopia and Put and Lud, and all the mingled people, and Cub, and the sons of a land allied with them shall fall by the sword.’

Ezek. 30:6   ‘Thus says the Lord:

Supporters of Egypt shall also fall

and the majesty of its strength shall come down

                                 from Migdal to Syene;

by the sword they shall fall with it,

                                declares the Master, the Lord.’

Ezek. 30:7   ‘And they shall be desolate amidst desolate lands,

and its cities shall be amidst ruined cities.’

The Hebrew for the pronoun translated as its in its cities is peculiar.  I presume the pronoun must refer to either Egypt or its supporters.  In the former case it should be feminine singular; in the latter case it should be masculine plural.  But it is masculine singular.  I’m inclined to assume it is an error.  But I’m far from sure it is, because the Hebrew of the preceding three verses is difficult to interpret, and their details may be misunderstood.

Ezek. 30:8   ‘And they shall know that I am the Lord

by My setting a fire in Egypt

and all its supporters will be crippled.’

Ezek. 30:9   ‘In that day messengers will go forth in ships

                                to make confident Ethiopia tremble

and terror will be in them at the time of Egypt,

                                for, behold, it is coming.’

Ezek. 30:10   ‘Thus says the Master, the Lord:

Then I will put an end to the abundance of Egypt

by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon.’

Ezek. 30:11   ‘He and his people with him,

                                  the terror-inspiring of the nations,

are being brought in to destroy the land,

and they shall draw their swords against Egypt

and make the land full of slain.’

Ezek. 30:12   ‘And I will make the rivers dry land

and present the land into the hand of evil men,

and make desolation of the land and its fullness

                                   by the hand of strangers.

                          I, the Lord, have spoken.’

Ezek. 30:13   ‘Thus says the Master, the Lord:

I will also destroy the idols,

and put an end to the false gods from Noph,

and a prince from the land of Egypt

shall not come to be again,

and I shall put fear into the land of Egypt.’

Ezek. 30:14   ‘And I shall make Pathros desolate,

and set a fire in Zoan,

                         and execute judgments in No.’

Ezek. 30:15   ‘And I shall pour out My ‘rage’ upon Sin,

                                     the stronghold of Egypt,

and cut off a great number of No.’

Ezek. 30:16   ‘And I will set a fire in Egypt;

Sin shall be deep in anguish,

and No shall be for splitting open,

and Noph, the distresses of their day.’

The word in the parentheses has a yad when it should be spelled with a vav.  The correction is in the brackets.

Ezek. 30:17   ‘The young men of Aven and Pi-beseth

                                      shall fall by the sword,

and they shall proceed into captivity.’

Ezek. 30:18   ‘And the day is darkened in Tehaphnehes

by My crushing there the yokes of Egypt

and the cessation in it of the majesty of its strength.

It?  A cloud shall cover it,

and its daughter cities shall proceed into captivity.’

Ezek. 30:19   ‘So shall I execute judgments in Egypt,

and they may know that I am the Lord.’”

Ezek. 30:20   And it was in the eleventh year in the first month on the month's seventh day the word of the Lord occurred to me saying,                                                   [Return to Ezek. 31:1]

Ezek. 30:22   “Therefore, thus says the Master, the Lord:  Behold, I am against Pharoah, king of Egypt, so I will break his arms, the strong one and the broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.”

Ezek. 30:25   “And I will make the arms of the king of Babylon firm, but the arms of Pharoah shall fall, and they shall know that I am the Lord by My placing My sword in the hand of the king of Babylon, and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.”
