2Chronicles 14

2Chr. 14:1   And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord, his God,

Some of this chapter appears in 1Kings Chapter 15.  These first three verses, in particular, are reminiscent of 1Kin. 15:11 to 15:13.

2Chr. 14:2   and he removed the alien altars and the high places, and smashed the pillars, and cut down the asherim,

2Chr. 14:3   and spoke to Judah to seek the Lord, God of their ancestors, and to observe the Torah and the commandment.

2Chr. 14:4   He also removed from all the cities of Judah the high places with the sun idols, and the kingdom was peaceful before him.

This verse may be in direct conflict with 1Kin. 15:14.  There we are told that none of the high places were removed.  Here the high places with sun idols were removed.  However. 2Chr. 15:17 sheds some additional light on this matter and it may explain the conflict.

The rest of this chapter doesn’t appear anywhere else.

2Chr. 14:5   And he rebuilt the stronghold cities throughout Judah, because the land was undisturbed as there was no war against him during those years, for the Lord had granted rest to him.

2Chr. 14:6   And he said to Judah, “We shall rebuild these cities so that we make a wall go around with towers, gates, and bars.  The land is again before us, for we have sought the Lord and He has given rest to us from every side.”  So they rebuilt and prospered.

2Chr. 14:7   And Asa had an army bearing shield and lance from Judah of three hundred thousand, and from Benjamin bearers of shields and benders of the bow of two hundred and eighty thousand, all these mighty men of valor.

2Chr. 14:8   And Zerach, the Ethiopian, came out toward them with an army of a thousand thousand and three hundred chariots, and he came as far as Mareshah.

2Chr. 14:9   And Asa came out before him and they set in battle array in the valley of Zephath toward Mareshah.

2Chr. 14:10   And Asa called out to the Lord, his God, and said, “Lord, there is no helper beside You for one without strength in the midst of a great one.  Help us, Lord, our God, for we rely on You, and in Your name we come against this multitude.  You are the Lord, our God.  Let not a human prevail against You.”

2Chr. 14:11   Then the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

2Chr. 14:12   And Asa pursued them, and the people who were with him, as far as to Gerar, and more Ethiopians fell there, none of theirs being alive, for they were crushed before the Lord and before His armed host, and they carried off spoil that was very great.

2Chr. 14:13   And they smote all the cities surrounding Gerar, for the terror of the Lord was upon them, and they plundered all the cities, for much booty was in them.

2Chr. 14:14   And they also smote the habitations of the cattle, and took away sheep in abundance and camels that they took to Jerusalem.
