1Kin. 10:1 And the queen of Sheba regarded the fame of Solomon by the name of the Lord and she came to test him with difficult questions.
1Kin. 10:2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train of camels bearing exceedingly much spices and gold, and precious stones, and she came to Solomon and she told all that was on her heart to him.
1Kin. 10:3 Then Solomon declared to her all her answers. There was no answer hidden from the king that he did not explain to her.
1Kin. 10:4 Then the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,
1Kin. 10:5 and the food of his table and the housing of his servants, and the position of his officers and their vestments, and his cup bearers, and his burnt offerings that he would offer the house of the Lord, and there was no more breath in her.
1Kin. 10:6 And she said to the king, “The report that I heard in my land about your deeds and about your wisdom was true.”
1Kin. 10:7 “But I had no faith in the reports until when I came, and my eyes saw it, and behold, half was not told to me. You have added wisdom and prosperity to the fame of which I have heard.”
1Kin. 10:8 “Happy are your men, happy are your servants, those who are standing before you daily hearing your wisdom.” [Return to 1Kin. 12:4]
1Kin. 10:9 “May the Lord, your God, be blessed, Who delights in you to set you on the throne of Israel, the Lord loving Israel forever, and He made you to be king to do justice and righteousness.”
1Kin. 10:10 And she gave a hundred and twenty talents of gold to the king, and very many spices, and stones of value. Such spices as these did not come in more abundance that the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.
1Kin. 10:11 And the navy of Hiram, which carried the gold from Ophir, also brought in from Ophir very many timbers of sandalwood and precious stone. [Return to 2Chr. 9:10]
1Kin. 10:12 And the king made the timbers of sandalwood pillars for the house of the Lord and for the house of the king, and harps and psalteries for the singers. Such timber of sandalwood did not come and was not seen up to this day. [Return to 2Chr. 9:11]
1Kin. 10:13 And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all she desired that she requested, beside what he gave to her according to the power of king Solomon. And she turned and went to her land, she and her servants.
1Kin. 10:14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon annually was six hundred sixty-six talents of gold,
1Kin. 10:15 beside from the men of trade and of the traffic of the traders and of all the kings of the mingled and of the governors of the country.
1Kin. 10:16 And king Solomon made two hundred targets of hammered gold. Six hundred shekels of gold made up for one target.
1Kin. 10:17 And three hundred shields of hammered gold; three pounds of gold made up for one shield. And the king put them in the forest house of Lebanon.
The seventh word in the Hebrew is the plural term manim, translated as pounds, but it does not correspond to the modern English weight. It is supposed to have been a weight of 50 shekels. Therefore, the weight of gold of each shield was 150 shekels. [Return to 2Chr. 9:16]
1Kin. 10:18 And the king made a great throne of ivory and laid over it the finest gold.
1Kin. 10:19 The throne had six steps and the throne had a round top behind it, and arms on each side to the place of the seat, and two lions standing by the arms.
1Kin. 10:20 And twelve lions were standing there on the six steps on each side. Such had not been made for any of the kingdoms.
1Kin. 10:21 And all of the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the forest house of Lebanon were of pure gold. Nothing was of silver. It was not considered to be something during the days of Solomon.
1Kin. 10:22 For the navy of the king's at Tarshish was at sea with the navy of Hiram. One of three years the navy of Tarshish would come carrying gold and silver, elephant tusks, and apes, and peacocks.
1Kin. 10:23 So king Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth in wealth and in wisdom.
1Kin. 10:24 And all of the earth were seeking the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom that God had put in his heart.
1Kin. 10:25 And they were each bringing his present of vessels of silver and vessels of gold and garments and armor and spices, horses, and mules, a certain rate, year by year.
1Kin. 10:26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen, and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, and he put them in the cities of chariots and with the king in Jerusalem.
1Kin. 10:27 And the king applied silver in Jerusalem like stones, and he applied cedar that was in the lowlands, like the sycamores for abundance.
1Kin. 10:28 And the horses that were Solomon’s were brought out from Egypt and from Keveh. The merchants of the king would buy from Keveh for a price.
1Kin. 10:29 And a chariot came up and went out from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. And thus they brought out for all the kings of the Hittites and for the kings of Aram according to their means.
