None of this chapter is found elsewhere in the bible.  In fact, the story of Solomon’s ascension to the throne is very different from that described in 1Kings.  Moreover, in this chapter, it sounds like David is still fully functional, which is in sharp contrast to the depiction of his condition when Solomon assumes the throne in 1Kings (1Kin. 1:1).

1Chr. 29:1   And David, the king, said to the whole congregation, “Solomon, my son, on whom God alone decided, is young and delicate, while the work is great, for the palace is not for humankind, but for the Lord God.”

1Chr. 29:2   “And with all my might I have prepared the gold for gold for the house of my God, and the silver for silver, and the brass for brass, and the iron for iron, and the timbers for wooden things, stones of onyx and stones to be set, stones of glitter and of different color, and every precious stone, and stones of marble in abundance.”

1Chr. 29:3   “And yet, because of my pleasure with the house of my God, a treasure of gold and silver is mine; I give to the house of my God on top of all I have prepared for the house of holiness

1Chr. 29:4   three thousand talents of gold from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents refined silver to overlay the house walls,

1Chr. 29:5   for the gold for the gold and for the silver for the silver, and for every kind of work by the hand of artisans.  Now who is willing to offer to fill his hand today for the Lord?”

1Chr. 29:6   And the leaders of households and the princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even to the officials of the business of the king, offered willingly.

1Chr. 29:7   And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of brass, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.

1Chr. 29:8   And with whom precious stones were found, they gave to the treasury of the house of the Lord by the hand of Jehiel, the Gershonite.

1Chr. 29:9   And the people rejoiced over their freewill offering, for with whole heart they offered freely to the Lord, and David, the king, also rejoiced a great rejoicing.

1Chr. 29:10   And David blessed the Lord in the eyes of the entire congregation, and David said, “Blessed are You, Lord, God of Israel, our Father, from eternity and to eternity.”

1Chr. 29:11   “Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all in heaven and on the earth is Yours, Lord, the kingdom and the acclamation for all to the highest,

1Chr. 29:12   and the wealth and the honor are from Your presence, as You are Ruler in everything, and in Your ‘hand’ are power and might, and in Your ‘hand’ is to make great, and to give strength to all.”

1Chr. 29:13   “So now, our God, we are giving thanks to You and are giving praise to Your glorious name.”

1Chr. 29:14   “But then who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer willingly like this?  Surely all is from You, so from Your ‘hand’ we have given to You.”

1Chr. 29:15   “We are as temporary inhabitants before You, and sojourners, as were all our fathers.  Our days are as a shadow upon the earth and have no outcome.”

1Chr. 29:16   “Lord, our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build for You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your ‘hand,’ as everything is Yours.”

The pronoun in the parentheses, translated as it in the phrase it is from Your ‘hand,’ is feminine.  Such gender applies when either the antecedent is feminine or the pronoun refers to an indeterminate antecedent.  It’s hard to decide which gender would be appropriate here.  The possible antecedent here is this abundance, and the word abundance is indeed masculine.  But the phrase this abundance is itself referring to something indeterminate.  So the pronoun it may also be referring to something indeterminate.  Can you see the problem?  A difficult grammar question to resolve.  So in keeping with my philosophy, I must assume there is no error here, and the correction in the brackets is unnecessary.

1Chr. 29:17   “And I know, my God, that You examine the heart and must be pleased with uprightness.  In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things, and now I have seen Your people who is found here willingly offering to You with joy.”

1Chr. 29:18   Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, watch this forever according to the purpose of the plans of the heart of Your people -- and direct their heart to You.”

1Chr. 29:19   “And to Solomon, my son, give a whole heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your ordinances, and to do all, and to build the palace for which I have provided.”

1Chr. 29:21   And they slaughtered sacrifices to the Lord and offered burnt offerings to the Lord in the morning after that day, a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and the sacrifices were enough for all Israel.

1Chr. 29:22   And they ate and drank before the Lord on that day with great joy.  And they made Solomon son of David for king the second time, and anointed to the Lord to be ruler, and for Zadok to be priest.

1Chr. 29:23   And Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of David, his father, and all of Israel prospered, and listened to him.

1Chr. 29:24   And all the princes and the mighty men, and also all the sons of the king, David, gave a hand under Solomon, the king.

1Chr. 29:25   And the Lord made Solomon great more than in the eyes of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been upon any king before him over Israel.

1Chr. 29:26   Now David son of Jesse had been king over all Israel,

1Chr. 29:27   and the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he was king seven years in Hebron and he was king thirty-three in Jerusalem.

1Chr. 29:28   And he died in good old age, having had enough days, wealth, and glory, and Solomon, his son, became king in his place.

1Chr. 29:29   And the acts of David, the king, the first and the last, behold them written according to the words of Samuel, the seer, and according to the words of Nathan, the prophet, and according to the words of Gad, the seer,
