Psalms 62

Psal. 62:1   A psalm of David's for the leader, for Jeduthun:

We have been introduced to Jeduthun before, in Psal. 39:1.

Psal. 62:2   Only concerning God is my soul silent;

                              my salvation is from Him.

David’s soul “speaks” out against his oppressors, but concerning God, his soul is at peace.

Psal. 62:3   Only He is my Rock and my Salvation, my High Tower;

                               I shall not be moved much.

Psal. 62:4   Until when will you go against a man you would murder?

                               All of you, like an inclined wall,

                      a fence that is tottering!

A fascinating metaphor.  The people are like a wall or a fence, surrounding their prey, threatening to fall on him.

Psal. 62:5   From one’s height they only devise to thrust away,

                               they would accept falsehood.

                     They might bless with one's mouth,

                               but in their innermost part they would curse.            Selah.

Psal. 62:6   Only wait in silence, my soul, for God,

                               for from Him is my hope.

Psal. 62:7   Only He is my Rock and my Salvation, my High Tower.

                               I shall not be moved.

Psal. 62:8   My salvation and my glory is according to God,

                               the Rock of my strength;

                      my refuge is with God.

Psal. 62:9   Trust in Him throughout all time, people;

                               pour out your heart before Him.

                      God is a Refuge for us.            Selah.

Psal. 62:10   Surely ordinary men are of vanity,

                                great men are of falsehood.

                        Lifted on scales, they are from the same vapor.

Psal. 62:11   Put no trust in oppression,

                                 and have no vain hope in robbery;

                        if wealth should flourish, set no heart.

Psal. 62:12   God has spoken once

                                  -- twice I have heard this

                         -- that strength is God's.

Psal. 62:13   Also Yours, O Master, is mercy,

                                   that You will reward to each according to his work.
