Jeremiah 45

Jere. 45:1   The word that Jeremiah, the prophet, spoke to Baruch son of Neriah on his writing these words on a book from the mouth of Jeremiah in the fourth year for Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah saying,

As you may notice, this very short chapter returns to an earlier time, that is, some years before the fall of Jerusalem, the time of Chapters 25, 28, and 36.  This is the year in which Jeremiah was instructed to begin writing his book by the hand of Baruch (see vss. 36:2 to 4).

Jere. 45:2   “Thus says the Lord, God of Israel, about you, Baruch:

Jere. 45:3   ‘You have said,

                             ‘Woe now to me!’

                   For the Lord has added sorrow upon my pain;

                             I labor with my groanings

and I do not find rest.’

Jere. 45:4   ‘Thus shall you say to him:

                              ‘Thus says the Lord:

                    ‘Behold, what I have built,

                               I am breaking down,

                    and what I have planted,

                               I am pulling up,

as the whole earth, it is Mine.’

Jere. 45:5   ‘Yet you would seek great things for yourself!  You must not seek.  For behold, I am bringing evil upon all flesh, declares the Lord, but I will give your life to you for a spoil against all the places that you might go there.’”
