2Samuel 22

 

וַיְדַבֵּר דָּוִד לַיהוָה אֶת־דִּבְרֵי הַשִּׁירָה הַזֹּאת בְּיוֹם הִצִּיל יְהוָה אֹתוֹ מִכַּף כָּל־אֹיְבָיו וּמִכַּף שָׁאוּל׃   22:1

2Sam. 22:1   And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul,

וַיֹּאמַר יְהוָה סַלְעִי וּמְצֻדָתִי וּמְפַלְטִי־לִי׃   22:2

2Sam. 22:2   and he said,

                        “The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress

                              and my Deliverer for me.”

אֱלֹהֵי צוּרִי אֶחֱסֶה־בּוֹ מָגִנִּי וְקֶרֶן יִשְׁעִי מִשְׂגַּבִּי וּמְנוּסִי מֹשִׁעִי מֵחָמָס תֹּשִׁעֵנִי׃  22:3

2Sam. 22:3   “God of my strength,

                               I shall put my trust in Him,

                        My Shield and my Horn of Plenty,

                              my High Tower and my Refuge, my Savior!

                        You will save me from injustice.”

מְהֻלָּל אֶקְרָא יְהוָה וּמֵאֹיְבַי אִוָּשֵׁעַ׃   22:4

2Sam. 22:4   “I will praisefully summon the Lord,

                                and I will be saved from my enemies.”

כִּי אֲפָפֻנִי מִשְׁבְּרֵי־מָוֶת נַחֲלֵי בְלִיַּעַל יְבַעֲתֻנִי׃   22:5

2Sam. 22:5   “When waves of death surround me,

                               floods of wickedness may terrify me,

חֶבְלֵי שְׁאוֹל סַבֻּנִי קִדְּמֻנִי מֹקְשֵׁי־מָוֶת׃   22:6

2Sam. 22:6    the cords of Sheol surround me,

                              the snares of death are before me,

בַּצַּר־לִי אֶקְרָא יְהוָה וְאֶל־אֱלֹהַי אֶקְרָא וַיִּשְׁמַע מֵהֵיכָלוֹ קוֹלִי וְשַׁוְעָתִי בְּאָזְנָיו׃   22:7

2Sam. 22:7   in my distress I will call the Lord

                              and I will cry out to my God,

                        and He will hear my voice from His Temple,

                              and my cry will be in His ‘ears.’”

ותגעש וַיִּתְגָּעַשׁ וַתִּרְעַשׁ הָאָרֶץ מוֹסְדוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם יִרְגָּזוּ וַיִּתְגָּעֲשׁוּ כִּי־חָרָה לוֹ׃   22:8

2Sam. 22:8   “Then the earth will shake and quake,

                              the foundations of the heavens will tremble;

                        and they will shake because of His ‘anger.’”

עָלָה עָשָׁן בְּאַפּוֹ וְאֵשׁ מִפִּיו תֹּאכֵל גֶּחָלִים בָּעֲרוּ מִמֶּנּוּ׃   22:9

2Sam. 22:9   “Smoke rises up in His ‘nostrils’

                                and fire from His ‘mouth’ shall devour;

                         coals flame from Him.”

וַיֵּט שָׁמַיִם וַיֵּרַד וַעֲרָפֶל תַּחַת רַגְלָיו׃   22:10

2Sam. 22:10   “And He will incline heaven and descend,

                                 and thick darkness shall be beneath His ‘feet.’”

וַיִּרְכַּב עַל־כְּרוּב וַיָּעֹף וַיֵּרָא עַל־כַּנְפֵי־רוּחַ׃   22:11

2Sam. 22:11   “And He will ride on cherubs and fly,

                                 and He shall seem to be on the wings of the wind.”

וַיָּשֶׁת חֹשֶׁךְ סְבִיבֹתָיו סֻכּוֹת חַשְׁרַת־מַיִם עָבֵי שְׁחָקִים׃   22:12

2Sam. 22:12   “And He, Gatherer of waters,

                                 makes His dark circles of pavilions thick clouds of the skies.”

מִנֹּגַהּ נֶגְדּוֹ בָּעֲרוּ גַּחֲלֵי־אֵשׁ׃   22:13

2Sam. 22:13   “From the brightness of His presence

                                 coals of fire flame forth.”

יַרְעֵם מִן־שָׁמַיִם יְהוָה וְעֶלְיוֹן יִתֵּן קוֹלוֹ׃   22:14

2Sam. 22:14   “The Lord will thunder from the heavens,

                                 and the Most High will give forth of His ‘voice.’”

וַיִּשְׁלַח חִצִּים וַיְפִיצֵם בָּרָק ויהמם וַיָּהֹם׃   22:15

2Sam. 22:15   “And He will send forth arrows and scatter them,

                                 lightning, that discomfits.”

וַיֵּרָאוּ אֲפִקֵי יָם יִגָּלוּ מֹסְדוֹת תֵּבֵל בְּגַעֲרַת יְהוָה מִנִּשְׁמַת רוּחַ אַפּוֹ׃   22:16

2Sam. 22:16   “And channels of the sea will appear;

                                  they will lay bare the foundations of the world,

                           the rebuke of the Lord,

                                  from the blast of the breath of His nostrils.”

יִשְׁלַח מִמָּרוֹם יִקָּחֵנִי יַמְשֵׁנִי מִמַּיִם רַבִּים׃   22:17

2Sam. 22:17    “He will send from on high;

                                  He will take me;

                            He will pull me out from great floods.”

יַצִּילֵנִי מֵאֹיְבִי עָז מִשֹּׂנְאַי כִּי אָמְצוּ מִמֶּנִּי׃   22:18

2Sam. 22:18     “He will deliver me from my enemies of strength,

                                   from my foes who are mightier than I.”

יְקַדְּמֻנִי בְּיוֹם אֵידִי וַיְהִי יְהוָה מִשְׁעָן לִי׃   22:19

2Sam. 22:19     “They may confront me on the day of my calamity,

                                   but the Lord will be my Protector.”

וַיֹּצֵא לַמֶּרְחָב אֹתִי יְחַלְּצֵנִי כִּי־חָפֵץ בִּי׃   22:20

2Sam. 22:20    “He brings me forth to liberty;

                                   He will deliver me, for He delights in me.”

יִגְמְלֵנִי יְהוָה כְּצִדְקָתִי כְּבֹר יָדַי יָשִׁיב לִי׃   22:21

2Sam. 22:21    “The Lord will reward me according to my righteousness,

                                   according to the cleanness of my hand He will return to me.”

כִּי שָׁמַרְתִּי דַּרְכֵי יְהוָה וְלֹא רָשַׁעְתִּי מֵאֱלֹהָי׃   22:22

2Sam. 22:22    “For I have kept the ways of the Lord

                                   and have not departed wickedly from my God.”

כִּי כָל־ משפטו מִשְׁפָּטָיו לְנֶגְדִּי וְחֻקֹּתָיו לֹא־אָסוּר מִמֶּנָּה׃   22:23

2Sam. 22:23    “For all His ordinances are before me,

                                   and His statutes, I will not depart from it.”

וָאֶהְיֶה תָמִים לוֹ וָאֶשְׁתַּמְּרָה מֵעֲוֺנִי׃   22:24

2Sam. 22:24    “And I am upright for Him,

                                   and I have kept from my iniquity.”

וַיָּשֶׁב יְהוָה לִי כְּצִדְקָתִי כְּבֹרִי לְנֶגֶד עֵינָיו׃   22:25

2Sam. 22:25    “Therefore the Lord returns to me according to my righteousness,

                                   according to my cleanness confronting His ‘eyes.’”

עִם־חָסִיד תִּתְחַסָּד עִם־גִּבּוֹר תָּמִים תִּתַּמָּם׃   22:26

2Sam. 22:26    “With the merciful You will be upright,

                                   with the upright man You will be upright.”

עִם־נָבָר תִּתָּבָר וְעִם־עִקֵּשׁ תִּתַּפָּל׃   22:27

2Sam. 22:27    “With the pure You will show Yourself pure,

                                   and with the crooked You will be subtle.”

וְאֶת־עַם עָנִי תּוֹשִׁיעַ וְעֵינֶיךָ עַל־רָמִים תַּשְׁפִּיל׃   22:28

2Sam. 22:28    “And You will save the afflicted people;

                                   with Your ‘eyes’ on the haughty You will humble.

כִּי־אַתָּה נֵירִי יְהוָה וַיהוָה יַגִּיהַּ חָשְׁכִּי׃   22:29

2Sam. 22:29    “For You are my Lamp, O Lord,

                                   and the Lord will lighten my darkness.”

כִּי בְכָה אָרוּץ גְּדוּד בֵּאלֹהַי אֲדַלֶּג־שׁוּר׃   22:30

2Sam. 22:30    “For with this I would rush an army;

                                  with my God I can scale walls.”

הָאֵל תָּמִים דַּרְכּוֹ אִמְרַת יְהוָה צְרוּפָה מָגֵן הוּא לְכֹל הַחֹסִים בּוֹ׃   22:31

2Sam. 22:31    “As for God, perfect is His way,

                                  the word of the Lord is pure,

                           He is a Shield for all who take refuge in Him.”

כִּי מִי־אֵל מִבַּלְעֲדֵי יְהוָה וּמִי צוּר מִבַּלְעֲדֵי אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃   22:32

2Sam. 22:32    “For who is God, who besides the Lord?

                                  And who is a Rock, who besides our God?”

הָאֵל מָעוּזִּי חָיִל וַיַּתֵּר תָּמִים (דַּרְכּוֹ) [דַּרְכִּי]׃   22:33

2Sam. 22:33    “The God Who is my strong Fortress,

                                  and keeps the purity of my way,

The last word in this verse has a vav in place of a yad.  The error makes the translation His way instead of my way.  The correction is in the brackets.

מְשַׁוֶּה (רַגְלָיו) [רַגְלַי] כָּאַיָּלוֹת וְעַל בָּמוֹתַי יַעֲמִדֵנִי׃   22:34

2Sam. 22:34    Who makes my feet like the hinds,

                                  and will make me stand upon my high places,

The second word in this verse has an extra vav, making its translation His feet instead of the correct my feet.  The correction is in the brackets.

מְלַמֵּד יָדַי לַמִּלְחָמָה וְנִחַת קֶשֶׁת־נְחוּשָׁה זְרֹעֹתָי׃   22:35

2Sam. 22:35    Who trained my hand for war,

                                 so my arms can bend a bow of brass!”

וַתִּתֶּן־לִי מָגֵן יִשְׁעֶךָ וַעֲנֹתְךָ תַּרְבֵּנִי׃   22:36

2Sam. 22:36    “And You give Your shield of salvation to me;

                                with Your force You can make me great.”

תַּרְחִיב צַעֲדִי תַּחְתֵּנִי וְלֹא מָעֲדוּ קַרְסֻלָּי׃   22:37

2Sam. 22:37   “You can enlarge my step under me,

                                 so my feet do not slip.”

אֶרְדְּפָה אֹיְבַי וָאַשְׁמִידֵם וְלֹא אָשׁוּב עַד־כַּלּוֹתָם׃   22:38

2Sam. 22:38   “I shall pursue my enemies and destroy them,

                                 and I will not turn back until their total destruction.”

וָאֲכַלֵּם וָאֶמְחָצֵם וְלֹא יְקוּמוּן וַיִּפְּלוּ תַּחַת רַגְלָי׃   22:39

2Sam. 22:39   “And I shall consume them and smite them

                                  so they cannot rise,

                           as they fall beneath my feet.”

וַתַּזְרֵנִי חַיִל לַמִּלְחָמָה תַּכְרִיעַ קָמַי תַּחְתֵּנִי׃   22:40

2Sam. 22:40   “And You will gird me valiantly for war,

                                  You shall bring those against me down beneath me.”

וְאֹיְבַי תַּתָּה לִּי עֹרֶף מְשַׂנְאַי וָאַצְמִיתֵם׃   22:41

2Sam. 22:41   “And You shall show my enemies to me,

                                  the backs from my foes,

                           that I may cut them off.”

יִשְׁעוּ וְאֵין מֹשִׁיעַ אֶל־יְהוָה וְלֹא עָנָם׃   22:42

2Sam. 22:42   “They may look to the Lord,

                                 but there will be no rescuer,

                          and He does not answer them.”

וְאֶשְׁחָקֵם כַּעֲפַר־אָרֶץ כְּטִיט־חוּצוֹת אֲדִקֵּם אֶרְקָעֵם׃   22:43

2Sam. 22:43   “And I will wear them down like the dust of the earth,

                                 like the mire of the streets I will stamp them,

                           I will crush them.”

וַתְּפַלְּטֵנִי מֵרִיבֵי עַמִּי תִּשְׁמְרֵנִי לְרֹאשׁ גּוֹיִם עַם לֹא־יָדַעְתִּי יַעַבְדֻנִי׃   22:44

2Sam. 22:44   “And You will deliver me from the contentions of my people;

                                  You will keep me for a head of nations;

                           a people I do not know will serve me.”

בְּנֵי נֵכָר יִתְכַּחֲשׁוּ־לִי לִשְׁמוֹעַ אֹזֶן יִשָּׁמְעוּ לִי׃   22:45

2Sam. 22:45   “The children of the stranger will submit themselves to me;

                                  giving ear, they will hearken to me.”

בְּנֵי נֵכָר יִבֹּלוּ וְיַחְגְּרוּ מִמִּסְגְּרוֹתָם׃   22:46

2Sam. 22:46   “The children of the stranger shall wither

                                 and be restrained out of their close places.”

חַי־יְהוָה וּבָרוּךְ צוּרִי וְיָרֻם אֱלֹהֵי צוּר יִשְׁעִי׃   22:47

2Sam. 22:47   “The Lord lives,

                                 and blessed is my Rock,

                           and exalted is my God,

                                 the Rock of my salvation,

הָאֵל הַנֹּתֵן נְקָמֹת לִי וּמוֹרִיד עַמִּים תַּחְתֵּנִי׃   22:48

2Sam. 22:48    the God Who brings vengeance for me,

                                 and Who brings down peoples beneath me,

וּמוֹצִיאִי מֵאֹיְבָי וּמִקָּמַי תְּרוֹמְמֵנִי מֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תַּצִּילֵנִי׃   22:49

2Sam. 22:49    and Who brings me forth from my enemies,

                                  that from the uprisings You will lift me up,

                            from violent men You will deliver me.”

עַל־כֵּן אוֹדְךָ יְהוָה בַּגּוֹיִם וּלְשִׁמְךָ אֲזַמֵּר׃   22:50

2Sam. 22:50    “Therefore I will thank You, O Lord, among the nations,

                                  and I will sing praises to Your name,

מגדיל מִגְדּוֹל יְשׁוּעוֹת מַלְכּוֹ וְעֹשֶׂה־חֶסֶד לִמְשִׁיחוֹ לְדָוִד וּלְזַרְעוֹ עַד־עוֹלָם׃   22:51

2Sam. 22:51    the Tower of Salvation of His king,

                                  and showing mercy to His anointed,

                           to David and to his seed forevermore.”
