1Chr. 7:1   And as to the sons of Issachar, Tola, and Puah, Jashub, and Shimron were four.

The name of Jashub is misspelled in the parentheses.  The correction in the brackets replaces the yad with a vav.

1Chr. 7:2   And the sons of Tola, Uzzi, and Rephaiah, and Jeriel, and Jahmai, and Ibsam, and Shemuel, were heads of the house of their fathers -- of Tola's -- mighty men of valor in their generations; their number in the days of David was twenty-two thousand and six hundred.

1Chr. 7:3   And of the sons of Uzzi was Izrahiah; and the sons of Izrahiah were Michael, and Obadiah, and Joel, Ishiah, -- five -- chiefs all of them.

The tally of five must include the father, Izrahiah.

1Chr. 7:4   And on their behalf, in their generations in the house of their fathers, were bands of a battle host of thirty-six thousand, for they had many wives and sons.

1Chr. 7:5   And their brethren in all the families of Issachar were eighty-seven thousand brave men of mighty abilities, their genealogy reckoned according to all.

1Chr. 7:6   Of Benjamin, Bela, and Becher, and Jediael were three.

1Chr. 7:7   And the sons of Bela were Ezbon, and Uzzi, and Uzziel, and Jerimoth, and Iri, five heads of households, brave men of mighty abilities, and the reckoning by their genealogy was twenty-two thousand and thirty-four.

1Chr. 7:8   And the sons of Becher were Zemirah, and Joash, and Eliezer, and Elioenai, and Omri, and Jeremoth, and Abijah, and Anathoth, and Alameth.  All these were the sons of Becher,

1Chr. 7:9   and reckoned by their genealogies in their generations, heads of the house of their fathers, brave men of valor, were twenty thousand and two hundred.

1Chr. 7:10   And of the sons of Jediael was Bilhan, and the sons of Bilhan were Jeush, and Benjamin, and Ehud, and Chenaanah, and Zethan, and Tarshish, and Ahishahar.

The name of Jeush is misspelled in the parentheses.  The correction in the brackets replaces the yad with a vav.

1Chr. 7:11   All these, sons of Jediael, were for the heads of households, strong men of mighty abilities, seventeen thousand and two hundred deliverers of a host for war.

1Chr. 7:12   And Shuppim and Huppim were children of Ir; Hushim, children of Aher.

The last part of this verse makes little sense.  All the popular bible translators have tried to make sense of this verse in their translations, but none has succeeded to my satisfaction.  Some make the names to be of peoples (e.g., The Shuppim and the Huppim were sons of Ir; the Hushim were sons of Aher).  There is support for this interpretation in v. 15 below.  Others leave the first part as is, but change the name Hushim to a people.  Jewish bibles tend to translate the last word as another instead of a name, making it Hushim, the son of another.  Nothing works well in this context.  So I have assumed something, perhaps one word, was left out of the original Hebrew.

1Chr. 7:13   The sons of Naphtali were Jahaziel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shallum, sons of Bilhah.

1Chr. 7:14   Of the sons of Menasseh was Asriel, whom she [his wife] bore.  His concubine, the Aramitess, bore Machir, the father of Gilead.

I have taken the liberty to interject the two English words, his wife, in the brackets.  The Hebrew for them appears to have been left out.  Another interesting fact is revealed in this verse, namely, that an alien concubine can bear Jewish children.  Although his mother was an alien, Machir is reckoned as a Jew.

1Chr. 7:15   And Machir took a wife belonging to Huppim and to Shuppim, and the name of his sister was Maachah.  And the name of the second was Zelophehad, but daughters were for Zelophehad.

Here we have support for the interpretation that Shuppim and Huppim were names of peoples.  However, the support must be considered equivocal.  Machir took one wife from the two peoples?  Is that possible?  Yes.  It may be that she, the wife, was descended from both families.  Yet there is also a problem with this verse.  If someone’s sister was Maachah, how could she be Machir’s wife in the next verse? I must assume that the word translated as his sister is in error, and the Hebrew should have been his wife.  Now what of the second?  Who was ZelophahadMachir’s second wife?  If this conjecture is accurate, then my assumed correction makes the verse intelligible.  Maachah was Machir’s first wife and Zelophahad was his second wife.

1Chr. 7:16   And Maachah, the wife of Machir, bore a son, and she called his name Peresh.  And the name of his brother was Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rekem.

1Chr. 7:17   And of the sons of Ulam was Bedan.  These were the sons of Gilead son of Machir son of Menasseh.

1Chr. 7:18   And his sister, Hammolecheth, bore Ish-hod, and Abiezer, and Mahlah.

1Chr. 7:19   And the sons of Shemida were Ahian, and Shechem, and Likhi, and Aniam.

1Chr. 7:20   And of the sons of Ephraim was Shuthelach; and Bered was his son, and Tahath was his son, and Eleadah was his son, and Tahath was his son,

1Chr. 7:21   and Zabad was his son, and Shuthelah was his son; and Ezer and Elead, but men of Gath, being born in the land, slew them when they came down to seize their cattle.

1Chr. 7:22   And Ephraim, their father, mourned many days, while his brethren came to console him.

1Chr. 7:23   Then he came to his wife and she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Beriah, because he was in his house in misery.

The name Beriah can roughly mean in its misery.

1Chr. 7:25   And Rephach was his son, and Resheph, and Telach was his son, and Tahan was his son,

1Chr. 7:26   Ladan was his son, Ammihud was his son, Elishama was his son,

1Chr. 7:27   Nun was his son, Joshua was his son.

This is the Joshua son of Nun, for whom the book Joshua is named.

1Chr. 7:29   and alongside the children of Menasseh, Beth-shean and its towns, Taanach and its towns, Megiddo and its towns, Dor and its towns.  In these dwelled the children of Joseph son of Israel.

1Chr. 7:31   And the sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel -- he was the father of Birzaith.

The name of Berzaith is misspelled in the parentheses.  The correction in the brackets replaces the vav with a yad.

1Chr. 7:34   And the sons of Shomer were Ahi, and Rohgah, and Hubbah, and Aram.

The name of Rohgah is misspelled in the first set of parentheses.  In the first set of brackets the correction  removes the vav.  In the second set of parentheses the yad at the start of the name of Hubbah is incorrect.  The correction in the second set of brackets changes the yad to a vav.
